A new WhatsApp number has no trust history. WhatsApp's infrastructure treats it the same as a number that has never been used, which means any high-volume sending from day one gets flagged immediately.
The fix is a structured warm-up: a graduated ramp over 15 days that builds a sending record before you attach any automation or run any campaign. The schedule below comes directly from GoGHL's published warm-up documentation, with exact daily volumes and drip intervals for each phase.

The 5-Phase Schedule, Day by Day
The ramp is divided into five phases. Each phase increases volume gradually while tightening the drip interval to match the number's growing trust score.
- Days 1-3: 10-15 messages per day. Target 50%+ reply rate. Join 2-3 WhatsApp groups. Manual sends from the phone only. No automation, no integrations, no WhatsApp Web.
- Days 4-6: 20-30 messages per day (some documentation states up to 35). Increase by 15-20% per day. Drip interval: 1 message per 15-20 seconds.
- Days 7-9: 50-100 messages per day. Drip interval: 1 message per 10-15 seconds.
- Days 10-12: 200-300 messages per day. Full automation now permitted. Drip interval: 1 message per 5-10 seconds.
- Days 13-15: 500-1,000+ messages per day. Drip interval: 3-5 seconds minimum.
- Long-term ceiling: 1,500 messages per day is the maximum sustainable rate. Never exceed 2,000 per day.

Behavior Rules That Make the Numbers Work
The daily send counts matter, but they are not sufficient on their own. WhatsApp's trust model weights behavioral signals alongside volume. Three behavioral rules apply throughout the ramp.
First, replies are one of the most important factors. Every inbound reply from a real person is a positive signal in WhatsApp's system. Structure your early sends to invite responses: ask a question, confirm a detail, request feedback. A 50%+ reply rate target in the first three days is aggressive but achievable when you are messaging warm contacts who expect to hear from you.
Second, mix media types. Sending only text messages for 15 days reads differently than a pattern that includes the occasional image, voice note, or document, which is how a real person uses WhatsApp. You do not need to force it, but natural variation across media types helps.
Third, join a few groups early. Groups create two-way social context on the number. The documentation specifically recommends joining 2-3 groups during days 1-3. You do not need to be active in them, but the association adds to the number's behavioral profile.
The 90% Delivery Checkpoint
Delivery rate is the early warning system for warm-up problems. If messages are not being delivered, the number is accumulating negative signals even when you are staying within volume limits.
The rule is precise: if delivery rate drops below 90%, stop sending immediately. Do not reduce volume and continue. Stop. Then wait 48-72 hours before resuming, and resume at a lower rate than the one that triggered the drop.
What triggers a delivery drop during warm-up? The most common causes are sending to stale or invalid numbers, messages being blocked by recipients, or the daily volume increasing too fast relative to where the trust score sits. The 48-72 hour pause gives the number's score time to stabilize before new sends add to it.
If you skip the pause and push through a delivery drop, the temporary flag that caused it can convert into a 24-48 hour suspension or, if the pattern continues after that, a permanent ban.
Delivery below 90% plus an ignored pause is the most common path to permanent bans in agency accounts. Build the checkpoint into your onboarding workflow: check delivery rate on day 5, day 10, and day 14 at minimum.
What Resets Warm-Up
Several actions reset a number's accumulated trust score and effectively restart the warm-up clock. Knowing what resets it prevents accidental setbacks after the 15 days are complete.
Changing the device the number is logged into resets the session trust. WhatsApp ties the session to the device fingerprint, not just the phone number. If a client's WhatsApp instance moves from one device to another, treat it as a new warm-up even if the number itself is years old.
Changing the number itself obviously starts fresh. A number that was warmed on one SIM cannot transfer its trust to a different SIM.
A ban followed by restoration is a partial reset. A restored number returns with a reduced trust score, not a clean one. Treat post-ban restoration as phase 3 or 4 of the ramp rather than as a fully warmed number.
Connecting to Drip Mode After Warm-Up
Once a number exits the warm-up ramp, the drip interval settings from phase five become the baseline for ongoing campaign operation. For bulk campaign sends, the recommended setting is 15,000ms (15 seconds per message). For daily automated workflows like appointment reminders or follow-up sequences, 3,000-5,000ms is appropriate. For any subsequent number warm-up you run in the future, return to 10,000-20,000ms.
Configure drip mode in Settings > Message Queuing within the sub-account location. The two parameters are Max (fixed at 1) and Duration in milliseconds. Set the Duration to 15,000 for bulk campaigns and adjust down for lower-volume automations.
These intervals are not randomized - the value is consistent spacing that prevents the burst-send velocity pattern, not mimicking human unpredictability.

Agencies managing more than one client typically warm multiple numbers simultaneously. Each number runs its own independent warm-up ramp. A number on day 12 does not benefit from being in the same account as a number on day 2, and a problem with one number does not affect the others.
