Setting Up the Meta Campaign
In Meta Ads Manager, click-to-WhatsApp campaigns use the Engagement or Leads objective and the WhatsApp destination. The ad unit shows a standard creative (image or video) with a call-to-action button that opens WhatsApp directly rather than a URL.
The greeting message is configured in the ad setup under WhatsApp > Message Template. This is the text that auto-populates when the user taps the ad. Keep it short and action-oriented: something like 'Hi, I saw your ad and I am interested.' The simpler the greeting, the more likely the user is to tap Send and actually start the conversation. For the ad creative, video ads tend to produce higher tap rates for service businesses because they can demonstrate the outcome. Image ads work well for offers with a clear visual (a before-after, a price callout, a product shot). Tag each ad set with a distinct campaign name and ad name in Meta. How Attribution Works on the GoGHL Side
When a CTWA conversation arrives in GoGHL, the platform reads metadata embedded in the incoming message by Meta. Google ad data from CTWA also appends to the conversation message body, but the dedicated tag and custom field system is Meta-specific. For Google CTWA leads, parse the message metadata directly.
Set up the six custom field keys before running your first CTWA campaign. They only populate on future leads, not retroactively. Five minutes of setup prevents a permanent gap in your attribution data.
The Speed-to-Lead Workflow
The first message from a CTWA lead triggers the workflow. At this point the contact already exists in the CRM, is tagged with the ad source, and has the campaign metadata in their custom fields. The workflow fires immediately.
Speed to lead is the dominant variable in CTWA conversion rates. Research consistently shows that replying within one minute of first contact produces conversion rates that are dramatically higher than waiting even five minutes. At 30 minutes, the lead has already messaged two or three other businesses. The automated workflow removes human response time from the equation entirely.
A high-converting CTWA workflow has four steps. First, an instant acknowledgment message goes out: 'Thanks for reaching out about [service]. I have a couple of quick questions to make sure I can help.' This confirms to the lead that the conversation is active and sets the expectation for the qualifier questions. Second, an AI qualifier asks 2-3 questions specific to the offer. For a home services business, that might be location, job type, and timeline. Common Setup Mistakes
Three mistakes account for most CTWA campaign failures. The first is a weak or missing instant reply. If the workflow does not fire in the first 60 seconds, the lead's intent has already started cooling. Test the workflow trigger with a real ad click before the campaign goes live.
The second mistake is using a number that has not been warmed up. CTWA campaigns can generate significant inbound volume quickly, especially with a well-performing creative.
